ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The Annual General Meeting of The Daffodil Society was held on Sunday 10th March 2013 at the Holiday Inn, Olympus Ave, Tachbrook Park, Leamington Spa, CV34 6RJ.

The meeting commenced at 11am. After lunch Ken Harrop, a very experienced and successful grower and exhibitor, was our guest speaker and gave an illustrated talk on “Growing daffodils my way”

ANNUAL SHOW

The annual show was held over the weekend of April 20th and 21st in the main hall at Myton School, Myton Road ,Warwick.

This was an opportunity for Society members to gather together to show their daffodils in friendly competition. From the friendly pre- judging staging banter through to the ”post-mortem” congratulations and commiserations this was the chance to admire a wonderful array of daffodils of all types and colours and pick up hints and tips from experienced and successful growers.

There were classes for beginners, single flower classes, multi vase classes and classes for clubs and societies   – something for everyone. There is no charge for entries and no prize money. Just the chance of a coveted first place card, rosette or one of the Society’s historical and prestigious trophies is sufficient.

Further information regarding the Show can be found here

Schedules have been sent to all members and are available to download here

APPROVED LIST OF INTERMEDIATES

Each year the Classification sub committee reviews cultivars for inclusion on the Society’s approved lists. Many of the intermediate cultivars that are on the lists of other international societies consistently grow in the UK above the 80mm requirement and cannot be included. This is restricting the number and range of Intermediate flowers on the showbench and far worse, resulting in some members receiving the dreaded NAS against their exhibit.

After much discussion and informal sounding out of some leading growers at home and abroad the Society has increased the maximum size for Intermediates to 85mm for Daffodils Society shows taking place in 2014. A revised list will be issued after the June 2014 committee meeting.

We will monitor this change to see if it increases the number of show quality flowers available for the Intermediate classes in the UK and if it improves the number and variety of cultivars appearing on the show bench.

For the 2013 show season the Approved Intermediate printed on the website should be used

APPROVED LISTS OF CULTIVARS for RESTRICTED CLASSES, Miniatures List A and B and Intermediates

These have been updated for 2013 and appear on the Shows page of the website. A major revision of the approved lists of cultivars for restricted classes has now been completed. We hope you find the new listing format helpful.
