The late Ian Johnson

It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Ian Johnson.
Ian was a great daffodil grower and a very successful exhibitor. He enjoyed the camaraderie of the daffodil world and was a keen competitor but always with good grace and humour.
He will be sadly missed by his many friends and fellow exhibitors around the country.

Our condolences to his family.

Ian was a true gentleman, very humble who grew outstanding quality exhibition Daffodils. In this last year,at our 2018 Daffodil Show he won The Wotton Trophy for the third consecutive year and Best Exhibit in Show for the second year running which demonstrated his quality. Ian would talk, impart his knowledge and advise anyone who was willing to listen. Without a doubt we will miss Ian not only as a person but also as an exhibitor.
Our condolences go to his family.

I first met Ian many years’ ago when I judged his daffodils at his local village show in Newington, near Folkestone. They were immaculately presented and I suggested it was time for him to move up a notch to showing at the South East England Daffodil Society Show. Being Ian, he said that he wasn’t good enough, but having eventually persuaded him that his blooms would not be out of place there, the rest as they say, is history….
