It is with great sadness that we hear of the death of Dr Peter Ramsay on July 20 2019. Peter was a Vice-President and Life Member of the National Daffodil Society of New Zealand and long standing Vice-President, friend and supporter of The Daffodil Society.
Peter and his wife Lesley were great ambassadors for the daffodil and made many friends as they attended shows and conventions around the world. Peter bred and raised over 100 daffodils many of them exquisite and much admired. Daffodil names with the Cameo prefix can be found in many prestigious award winning collections.
His contribution to the daffodil was recognised by the RHS in 2013 when he was awarded the Peter Barr cup. Daffodil friends were delighted that Peter and Lesley travelled to London to receive the award in person.

Fond memories of our stay with Peter and Lesley when Dale and I visited New Zealand in Sept 2015. Such a lovely person. Our condolences to Lesley and family, thinking of you all.
Joyce and I are sad to hear of Peter’s passing. Peter and Lesley either stayed with us or met us ïon several of their visits to the UK. In turn we stayed with them at Matangi during our visit to New Zealand in 2000.
Peter was a very skilled stager of flowers and almost always ended up staging somebodys flowers when he visited a daffodil show whilst in the U.K. His record as an exhibitor at National Shows in New Zealand was second to none and his partnership with the late Max Hamilton (Koanga Daffodils) has left an enormous legacy of superb exhibiiion daffodils, including several that have won Best Bloom in Show awards in the U.K. His enormous energy and drive made a major contribution to the success of the National Daffodil Society of New Zealand, of which both Peter and Lesley served terms as President. An outstanding editor of the New Zealand Daffodil Annual, Peter set a standard for future issues and several of the issues that he edited remain very well worth reading.
