  1. Malcolm Bradbury says:

I am sorry to hear about the recent death of Eddie Jarman. Older members of the Daffodil Society will recall Eddie as both a skilled hybridiser and as a leading exhibitor at RHS events.
Despite hybridising for many years and on a scale sufficient to make sound entries in the Engleheart Cup, Eddie was very selective and between 1978 and 2009 registered only 11 daffodils. Amongst his better known introductions were ‘Dream Catcher’ 2W-P (1978), ‘Happy Valley’ 2Y-Y (2004) and ‘Ruddy Duck’ 2O-O (2009).
I have not been able to fully record Eddie’s successes as a leading exhibitor in major collection classes but they did include winning the Bowles Cup 1998-1999, the Devonshire Trophy 1990, the Guy Wilson Trophy 2004 and the Richardson Trophy (1991 and 1995). I also note that his bloom of ‘Fragrant Rose’ 2W-P was Best Bloom in show at the RHS Daffodil Show in 1990.
Eddie was a member of the RHS Daffodil and Tulip Committee between 1993 and 2005 and also served on what is now the the Narcissus Classification Advisory Group.
Thank you Eddie for enriching the Daffodil world over such a long period.
