The late Alan Street – funeral arrangements

It is with sadness that we hear of the death of Alan Street. Alan was Head Gardener at Avon Bulbs and a fount of knowledge about bulbs. He created the most enchanting Gold medal winning displays at Chelsea flower show etc.

Primarily a snowdrop enthusiast, Alan had a keen interest in historic daffodils and made a few selections from wild/feral daffodils in the UK.

Alan’s funeral will take place on Friday 21 October at 12 noon. The venue is a natural burial ground, Higher Ground Meadow and directions can be found at http:www.highergroundmeadow.co.uk
Seating capacity is limited so please contact Matt Bishop if you wish to attend. Click to send email: title= or text/call 07482909033

A sad loss. Alan had such enthusiasm and had so much more to give and share with others.

Alan’s premature death from cancer at the age of 65 is very sad news. He was Head Nurseryman at Avon Bulbs and received the RHS Long Service Medal and Certificate for more than 40 years service as a horticulturalist last year. Alan had both an in depth practical knowledge and love of a wide range of bulbous plants. Though best known as a snowdrop enthusiast Alan was also a collector of old daffodils. A related interest was his extensive searches in the U.K. and Normandy for wild/feral plantings of N. pseudonarcissus, from which he made several selections of both single and double forms. Some of the selections were named but not registered and were included in a small Avon Bulbs display at the RHS Early Daffodil Competition in 2013. Alan was an easy person to talk to and readily shared his knowledge of plants with others. He will be very much missed.
