The late Frank Newbery

It is with sadness that we learn, rather belatedly, of the death of (Richard) Frank Newbery on October 18th 2022, at the grand age of 98 years. Many will remember Frank and his late sister Alice attending the Daffodil Society shows. He grew a full range of cultivars and managed several Wessex group entries in the Affiliated Society trophy class pretty much singlehanded.
Each year he entered classes for the James Barrington Memorial Award and had many successes in multi vase collections of Division 5-8 in the West country.
He was stalwart of the Wessex group and never stopped questioning people about their methods or stopping to admire their flowers.

Frank was also well known and respected in the Chrysanthemum Society and also the Dahlia Society, a flower that was his greatest love.

He will be much missed.

Frank was also very well known and loved in the National Sweet Pea Society where we have overnight staging at national shows. He and Alice would happily stay up staging overnight even when in his early 90s. A lovely man.

We will miss him at this years Wessex show.
