Daffodil Society Presentation Night

Our first presentation and social evening was held on Sunday 4 November at the splendid Victorian mansion, Easthampstead Park, on the edge of Wokingham and Bracknell, Berkshire. Named in the Domesday book, the home of Catherine of Aragon after she was banished from court for failing to produce a male heir for Henry VIII.  It later became home for generations of the Marquis of Downshire; this grand house is now a conference centre.

A delicious three course meal preceded the presentation of trophies won at the Society’s Spring Daffodil Show and the Late Daffodil Competition. It was also a chance to present founder member of the Daffodil Society’s Mid Southern group, Alex Burke with his framed Vice President citation amongst Mid Southern members and friends.

Membership Secretary Wendy Gillings organised the event and made the event extra special by beautifully decorating the dining tables with specially printed Daffodil confetti, bags of sweets for each guest and a floral table decoration arranged by her daughter-in-law Becky. The daffodil seating plan guided people to their tables, each named after parts of the daffodil flower eg, petal, foliage, cup etc….no boring Tables labelled A, B, C for the Daffodil Society!
Wendy and Richard also organised some entertainment…..a table quiz perhaps? pin the daffodil on the stem? Oh no. Guests were treated to two sessions of songs from the very talented and international trio “The Candy Girls” who entertained us royally with vintage classics. All those years of listening to the BBC radio show “Sing Something Simple” meant that we all knew the words and could sing and dance along with the Girls. At one point they even had an additional member – see the photos below!
A big thank you to Wendy and Richard and all those who attended. It was a night to remember.
