Waingroves Show, Derbyshire

The bloom shown below is of the cultivar ‘Camelot’, raised by Lionel Richardson and registered in 1962. It recently won “best bloom” at Waingroves for exhibitor Eric Baker. Each year at the Waingroves horticultural show in September they sell bags of “secret” bulbs (only the person who orders the bulbs knows what they are). The purchaser plants up the bulbs and there is a class at the Waingroves Daffodil Show just for these blooms, when the name of the cultivar is revealed. So not only did Mr Baker win the special class but achieved best bloom in show. Quite a feat when you have no idea what you are showing!
What an excellent way to encourage people to try showing Daffodils.
