Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th April 2020 will see The Daffodil Society return to it’s roots with a show at the Birmingham Botanical gardens.
The Daffodil Society (or the Midland Daffodil society as it was then) held their first show at the Botanical Gardens in 1899.
Jan Dalton, the DS Society archivist recalled the event when he wrote a potted history of the Society in his centenary celebration publication 100 Golden Years 1898-1998.
The first Annual Exhibition of the Society in 1889 “brought together a collection of flowers which was the surprise and admiration of all who visited the Exhibition” “The amateur growers were also well represented coming from various parts of the Kingdom”
Nothing much has changed in that respect. We aim to do our forbears proud next April.
